Videoscribe tutorial: create whiteboard animation presentation/video easily

One way to make your presentation/message stand out is to use drawing. Drawing in a presentation has an incredible effect, but the problem is that if we do not want to perpetuate the paper, the drawings have to be very simple to realize them in no time.

At least that’s what I thought until first saw a presentation drawn with an animation of Scribe type. This technique involves making a video of a hand drawing, so it can be played at high speed for the duration of the ideal drawing without having to give up some good pictures.

The following video is a great example of this type of presentations and also being the rapporteur Sir Ken Robinson , is a highly recommended chat.

There are companies that engage in this type of presentations on request. You send them the transcript of your presentation and they create the drawings, prepare the video and add narration. To give three examples, I will cite Cognitive Media , Truscribe  or ydraw . Sure there are more. It is very professional options ideal for large events. But …

Is there any tool that can draw presentations ourselves?

VideoScribeA couple of months ago at a Christmas dinner, a friend showed me VideoScribe .

It is a computer program  (PC / Mac) which also has application for iPad .

The operation of VideoScribe is based on 4 steps:

VideoScribe has an extensive library of pictures classified by categories and a search engine to facilitate location. If one is clear about what you want can find it quickly with the search, and if not, can surf the category that best fits the theme of the drawing you need to see what is there.

Once selected, the drawing is inserted into the canvas of the presentation. We can drag, resize, color and we can rotate and flip to arrange it in the direction that suits us.

VideoScribe also create and edit text, choosing the size and font (although with few options to choose from).

The timeline at the bottom has the drawings and texts in the order in which they will be drawn so that we can modify this order as it suits us.

Videoscribe display

VideoScribe offers the possibility of using our own drawings, although they should be vector format (.SVG). The application itself becomes our drawings to vector format. It is not the ideal choice, since the VideoScribe interprets the drawing, but not always in the best way. The other possibility is drawing them directly in vector format with a specialized program, but the right way we should do given for an article onHow to draw VideoScribe)?

Videoscribe editionOnce inserted a picture or text, we set it to playback suits our needs.

The main features are:

Drawing speed control

The program assigns by default a long time to do the drawing. The vast majority of images obtained from the library are drawn in 30 seconds. However, in many cases this will be an eternity. VideoScribe can reduce or increase the duration of the second half in half a second. We can also change the write speed of the texts.

Final stops put animations

VideoScribe makes every row drawings. By default, pauses for half a second after each. However, sometimes we may want to enlarge or reduce the transition between pictures by adding or removing pauses 0.5 seconds.

Define the drawing style

VideoScribe to change the style of drawing. We can make the colored drawing as inserted by default, but we can only draw lines, make solid object, grayscale or semi-transparent.

Modify hand and actions

By default, VideoScribe encourages the drawings with a right hand holding the ba pencil drawing. However you can make some changes.

Without having VideoScribe the Pro version, we can change the right hand to the left, we can do that instead of drawing arratre image or we can draw without hand.

The Pro version allows customization VideoScribe hand, typing with one hand behind the screen, and any other options.

Control the camera

By default, the camera zooms in on the image will be drawn at all times. But sometimes we are concerned that the drawing is part of a scene, and the scene zoom eye can see.

VideoScribe allows you to set the camera so it does not zoom the drawing is done and we can have a full view of the scene.

VideoScribe offers the ability to add voice narration and music to your presentation drawn.

You can insert a musical tuning between the possibilities offered by your bank VideoScribe music. The tune is played throughout the time duration of the presentation.

At the same time you can add voice narration. The voice recording is done independently of the drawings, so it is difficult to adapt our narrative to the drawings. The solution is to start with the story before adjusting times to images. And then speed or pause the picture so that it fits our discourse.

Videoscribe offers the possibility to adjust the volumes of both audio for music not cover our voice.

When we have prepared presentation, we can create a video.

The normal version does not allow configuration options, but Videoscribe Pro version lets us eliminate logo VideoScribe, remove the final out zooming, resizing, etc …

Video editing requires some time. For example video attached below the 1’24 “took more than seven minutes.

At the end of the edition VideoScribe offers the possibility to save the video on your PC or iPad Camera Roll, save our Dropbox account, hang it on our YouTube channel or post it on Facebook.

In VideoScribe help page  you will find three very complete tutorial and all kinds of additional information very interesting.

1. It is very difficult to  coordinate  recording  voice to the advancement of the drawings. So in the end you have to adapt the speed of drawing your narrative. This means double work: first you prepare the drawings, then you record your voice, then you must re-edit the drawings so that the result is as expected.

2. can not add the voice of fragments. We record it all at once. In lengthy presentations, it means having to start recording from scratch if we make a mistake.

3. The music has to be the same throughout the presentation. It is not insurmountable, but it is obvious that limits us.Sometimes it may be interesting to use different to emphasize a change of pace in our history soundtracks.

4. We can not regulate sound volumes differently in different phases of the video. Therefore, if you make pauses in your speech, you can not increase the volume of the music.

5.  Unlike most programs for presentations, where you advance one slide to another by a click (unless programes for the transition is automatic), has VideoScribe video format, so that the only how to stop playback between drawings is pressing the pause.  This means having to be aware of the video to press the pause, what will make your connection to the hearing impaired.

How can we overcome these limitations?

The key is to record the video without music or voice. Only drawings. And then treating the resulting video with a video editing program to add voice and music as it suits us. This overcame the first 4 limitations.

And fifth, a few weeks ago we offered a solution to control a video with a wireless presenter  that can be applied perfectly in this case to program scenes indefinite enter drawings or pauses. Thus we have the breaks we want without worrying about stopping the video. Our attention should be all for the audience.

You get used to draw in your presentations? If you do, you think this tool can make things easier? If you do not, you think this tool will you encourage it?Please leave your comment.

Create animated presentations with VideoScribe

Videoscribe is a tool that can export presentations in video format with nice visuals being the most prominent of them which the text is written by hand and drawn images likewise, creating the feeling of being in front of a blackboard or notebook.

The operation of the tool is very simple , allowing similar actions that can be performed in any program to create presentations and the result can be exported as video.

The problem is the tool that works offline, ie you enter the page, the record is done and then must download the application and use it as a desktop program.  The resulting video with it is to be exported to the internet to share online.

We also present a video that explains how the tool works:
